Bobby Boermans is a Dutch director and producer known for his work in elevated genre filmmaking and large-scale European productions with global reach. A graduate of the Dutch Film & Television Academy and the American Film Institute in Hollywood, Boermans blends European precision with cinematic ambition, creating works that merge authenticity with technical mastery.
His most recent feature, iHostage (2025), became Netflix’s most-watched non-English language film globally within its first week, reaching the #1 position in 81 countries and cementing its status as the most-viewed Dutch film of all time. He also directed The Golden Hour (Netflix) — a gripping thriller series praised for its intensity and realism, which reached the Netflix Global Top 10 — and the multi-season cultural phenomenon Mocro Maffia (Videoland), winner of the Dutch Academy Award for Best Drama Series, sold to 23 countries, and credited with defining the new era of Dutch premium television.
Among his other celebrated works are High Flyers (NPO) — a large-scale action drama following F16 fighter pilots, produced in close collaboration with the Royal Dutch Air Force — and Invasion (2024), an action epic created in partnership with the Royal Netherlands Navy, sold to Netflix before its theatrical debut and distributed worldwide by Studio Canal.
